Hackerquarters

Hackerquarters are living spaces for makers who want to live excellently near hackerspaces. Anyone can declare their home a hackerquarters or set out to start them, and hackerquarters are united by sharing home recipes and collaborating to live as excellently together as possible.

The Basic Hackerquarters Home Recipe:

• Awesome makers who know each other well rent or buy a place to live together near their hackerspace
• There is usually a waiting list of people who want to move in
• Once the number of people on the waiting list reaches 3 or 4, they start a new hackerquarters nearby

Optional Home Recipes

There are a number of different types of hackerquarters and you may find some of these apply to yours:

• Startup Houses:
  • Hackers with startup companies often like to live together to share in their learning experiences
• Hacker Hostels:
  • Hacker Hostel hackerquarters accomodate guests who are visiting from out of town and list a contact number at the Hackerspace and on the wiki for people to visit.
  • Some hacker hostels also list their rooms on AirBnB
• Maker Family Houses:
  • Makers with kids can live together to give their kids better peers and mentors
  • Maker families often share in baby-sitting and mentoring duties

Hackerquarters Prime: Primer Labs and Hyperink cofounders live and hack together at Hackerquarters Prime just a couple blocks from Noisebridge Hackerspace.
